Health risks
Giant hogweed sap contains furanocoumarins which cause a severe photosensitive reaction when skin is exposed to sunlight after contact. The reaction presents as blistering within 24–48 hours and can cause lasting scarring. Eye contact can cause visual impairment.
Professional management
Giant hogweed cannot be safely managed without appropriate PPE — full body suits, nitrile gloves, eye protection and face shields. Our operatives are trained in the safe handling of hazardous plants and work to established risk assessment procedures.
