If you are the buyer
The first step is to obtain a specialist survey to confirm the identification, extent and risk category. Do not rely on a non-specialist’s assessment alone. Once you have a specialist report, discuss the implications with your solicitor and mortgage lender.
If you are the seller
If Japanese knotweed has been identified at your property, you are legally required to disclose it on the TA6 form. Options include commissioning an independent specialist survey and management plan, obtaining quotes for treatment and offering a price reduction, or adjusting the asking price.
