Why watercourses matter
Japanese knotweed, Himalayan balsam and giant hogweed are all commonly found along watercourses. Flood events and management activities can cause inadvertent spread. Special care is required to comply with environmental regulations.
Herbicide use near water
Only certain herbicide formulations are approved for use near water. Approval is required from the Environment Agency, SEPA or NIEA for most applications adjacent to watercourses. Applying non-approved products near water is an offence.
